The Athens Foundation is a community foundation conceived and supported by Athenians. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for the people of our region through building endowments, awarding grants and providing leadership on key community issues now and for generations to come. Started in 1980 with $50 donations from Claire Ping and seven other local women, the Foundation's endowment stood at over three million dollars in 2008 and since inception over one million dollars has been given out to local organizations.
