Spring Grants Announced
This week the Athens Foundation Board of Directors announces the awarding of $36,830 in grants to thirteen local non-profit organizations in Athens County.

The following projects were approved at the April 29th Board meeting of the Foundation for funding from the General Endowment Fund: Health Recovery Services, $1,789 for Annual Teen Institute Leadership Retreat; Paper Circle, $4,900 for Circle Round the Square summer program; Ohio University, $3,780 for the TAKE ACTION; Factory Street Dance Studio, $1,400 for Building Improvements; Passion Works Studios, $2,260 for Technology Improvement; Stuart’s Opera House, $2,650 for Final Fridays Film Series; Shade Community Center, $3,220 for Play in Shade program; Athens County Historical Society and Museum, $1,350 for the Athens Present in Athens Past DVD program; Save Albany Village Elementary School, Inc., $3,255 for the Albany Community Center Gym Rehabilitation.

Additional grants were approved from the General Endowment Fund, The SEPAN Fund, the Dr. Bruce Paxton Fund and the Claire O. Ping Fund including: HAVAR, $3,900 to for Summer Fun for Special Kids program; National Alliance on Mental Illness of Athens, $3,250 for Athens Photographic Project; Glouster Depot Project $3,000 for foundation repair and $2,080 to Raccoon Creek Partnership for the Waterloo Aquatic Education Center.
The Athens Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for the people of our region through building endowments, awarding grants, and providing leadership on key community issues now and for generations to come. The next grants deadline is September 15th, 2008 for organization promoting animal welfare, education, health or social services.
