2008 Grant Applications Available at the Athens Foundation

Applications are now available for grants from the Athens Foundation for community projects that benefit the citizens of Athens County. Any non-profit or tax-exempt organization in Athens County is eligible to apply.
The Athens Foundation works to enhance the quality of life in the region by awarding grants, building endowments and providing leadership on key community issues now and for generations to come.

Last year the Foundation awarded nearly $160,000 for Athens-area projects and services in grants ranging from $900 to $8,100. An additional $75,000 was awarded last fall to projects targeting "Access to Healthcare for Seniors" from a partnership of the Athens Foundation, the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville and the Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Fund.

Applications will be available at the foundation's website after February 1: www.athensfoundation.org; at the office at 2 S. Court Street, 2nd Floor, Athens; or by phoning 740-594-6061.

This year's deadlines are March 15, 2008 from organizations addressing Environmental, Public Affairs, Recreation and Arts and Humanities issues and September 15 for Education, Healthcare, Mental Health and Human Services organizations.

A grants workshop will be held Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Athens Community Center. Call the Foundation officer to register at 594-6061.

For information on the grants process or how to become a Foundation member or donor, contact Executive Director Susan Urano at 594-6061, or email susan@athensfoundation.org. The Athens Foundation mailing address is P.O. Box 366, Athens, OH 45701.
