"Everybody owes rent for the space they occupy on this planet," said Mark Snider. And on a hot summer morning near the end of June, he and his wife Rita gave back with a $30,000 donation to the Athens Foundation.
Growing up in the town of Bremen, Ohio, Snider found his way to Athens after graduating from Otterbein College. As the founder and President of Snider, Fuller and Associates, Snider works right here in the heart of Athens. Because he's been here for almost 40 years, the humble Athens community has given Mark and Rita the drive to donate.
Leadership and community service are common activities for Snider. He's served in a number of community organizations ranging from Athens Chamber of Commerce and Tri-County Mental Health and Counseling, to Ohio University's College of Business and Athens County Port Authority. Snider has even helped fundraising efforts for organizations such as Athens County Children Services.
Giving to the Athens Foundation was an easy choice for Snider. As the Vice President of the Athens Foundation Board of Directors, he understands the accountability of the Foundation to put the money where it's most needed. He claims that he donated not only because he could trust the Athens Foundation, but that when it comes to funding community grants, "the foundation makes the best decision."
Although the Snider Family Fund will primarily aid the Athens community, Mark and Rita Snider hope to involve their children in this philanthropic endeavor as well. "Kids will maintain the connection with Athens," stated Mark. The kids may keep the connection, but it was Mark and Rita Snider who made the connection.
